Sankaracarya's Brahmasutrabhasya, also known as the Sarirakamimamsabhasya, which presents an Advaita interpretation of Badarayana's Brahmasutra, is the greatest expositin of the basic tenets and most intelligent dialoctics of the Advaita school of the Vedanta philosophy The Bhasya has been commented upon by a number of masterminds of classical and medieval India and that a few sub-schools of interpretation of Sankara's text have emerged, Tjhe most eminent of those sub-schools are nown as the 'Bhamatiprasthana' and the 'Vivarana-prasthana'. The former was initiated by Vacaspatimisra (9th cent.) dthrough his Bhamati on the Bhasya of Sankara, while the latter by Prakasatman through his Panca-padikavivarana, a supercommentary on the Pancapadika, a commentary on the Bhasya by Padmapadacary, Sankara's direct disciple.
There are a few differences in the apprach of the two sub schols, e.g. whether the hearing' Sravana' of the Vedanta texts is enjoined as a pre- requisite to the ultimate realizatin; positin of Malavidya (individual soul); respective inter-relation among sravana ,manana and nididhyasana ; whether the qualified Brahaman or the Suddha Brahman is the objet of Akhandakaravrti; etc.
